Whiskey Review : Woodford Reserve Double Oaked

Whiskey Review : Woodford Reserve Double Oaked

Today I'm reviewing Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, a bourbon that has been double barrel-aged for a unique and complex flavor profile.

At 45.2% ALC/VOL (90.4 proof), Double Oaked has no official age statement, but it is speculated that the whiskey spends six years in the first barrel and six to twelve months in the second. A bottle of this exceptional bourbon cost me $54.99 at my local liquor store.

On the nose, this bourbon has a sweet, mildly spicy aroma that some have compared to maple syrup. I smell peppery butterscotch and vanilla malt, with a lot of smokey oak aftertones. It's an enticing scent that invites you to take a sip.

The taste is exceptionally smooth yet rich in flavor, making it a perfect dessert bourbon. It's best enjoyed neat or perhaps in an old-fashioned. The taste almost matches the nose, with mild spiciness and notes of butterscotch, vanilla malt, pepper, and a long charred oak finish.

Overall, I give Woodford Reserve Double Oaked a 9.5 out of 10. It's an exceptional bourbon with an outstanding taste and smell. I would absolutely purchase it again. If you're looking for a unique, complex bourbon that's perfect for sipping or mixing into your favorite cocktail, give Woodford Reserve Double Oaked a try. You won't be disappointed.
